Dendera And Abeydos
In the morning, you will be picked up in an air-conditioned vehicle from your hotel in Luxor. Accompanied by a guide, you will be taken to Dendera, a little town in Egypt on the west bank of the Nile. It is situated about 65 kilometres north of Luxor.
The approach path to the temple complex of Dendera is between two Roman fountains that end at the massive entry gate. Within the walls are the temple, two birth houses, a Coptic basilica, a sanatorium, a sacred lake and a temple of Isis.
It was a site for chapels from the beginning of history of ancient Egypt. Further on, proceed to Abeydos which contains archaeological remains from all periods of ancient Egyptian history. It was significant in historical times as the main cult centre of Osiris, the lord of the netherworld. It was the burial place for the first kings of a unified Egypt.
In 1900, the Predynastic cemetery of el-Amra was excavated with hundreds of graves from all Predynastic phases. In addition, settlements have been found, most representing small farming villages.
