Itinerary
St. Catherine Monastery and Colored Canyon (from Sharm)
In the morning, you will be picked up in a 4X4 safari jeep from your hotel in Sharm El-Sheikh. Accompanied by a guide, you will be taken to the St Catherine's monastery, one of the most famous monasteries of the world.
The monastery is located at the foot of Mount Sinai and was constructed by the order of Emperor Justinian between 527 and 565. Inside, you will come across priceless works of art, including Arab mosaics, Greek and Russian icons, Western oil paintings, paintings on wax, marbles, enamels, chalices, including one donated by Czar Alexander II in the 19th century, and another by Empress Catherine of Russia in the 17th century.
Further on, proceed to the Colored Canyon in Nuweibe to see the wonderful natural colors of the rocks. The walls of the canyon reach up to almost 16 stories and are the most colorful and intriguing rock formations in the Sinai Peninsula. The canyon was created by the erosion of water upon sandstone and limestone. After viewing the rock formations, take the main road to an oasis. Stop for lunch on the way.
Continue to the quaint seaside town of Dahab where you can pick up some interesting souvenirs at reasonable prices. After shopping in Dahab, you will be dropped back to your hotel in Sharm El-Sheikh.
